Just wondered if you experienced folks think there is anything wrong with Betty's spay scar. She did get it infected (by transferring infection from her poorly foot ) but she had antibiotics and everything was fine. I noticed yesterday that the scar was a bit lumpy, and today it seems even more so. She doesn't seem poorly or is bothering with it, such as licking it. It feels hard to touch. I don't want to drag her off to the vets just for them to tell me it's normal, but I don't want to ignore it if it might be a problem. Please have a look at the photos and let me know what you think. Thanks.

It certainly shouldn't be lumpy, swollen or red Sarah - I would get it checked out.

I'm no expert on spay scars Sarah, but I can remember both Billie and Cara having bumpy, horrible looking scars for a while. Then after time they just smoothed out and you can hardly see them now. I was like you though and a bit worried at the time.

We posted at the same time Liz, like I said both the girls had grim looking scars, really uneven to touch but because they weren't red or oozing and didn't cause them any bother I left them and they just seemed to even out.

Sarah, Tabsi had her spay just a few weeks ago and just like Betty she got an infection and was on abs for a week. After which it healed nice and quickly and smoothly. If it was me I would get it checked out again too just to make sure there's not an infection underneath again

Does it feel hot,Sarah?Bit hard to tell from photos if there's inflammation,or still some bruising.Think vets is a wise choice. Our only experience with spay scars was too tight suturing.Rescue supplied vouchers for spaying - but only certain vets. And the greyhound "experienced" 1 was the practice we left cos we didn't like the way they treated our 1st dog.The sutures were really cutting in and the wounds becoming inflammed.Took the girlies to our vet(local track vet)who played hell and whipped them out. That was what I was itching to do- offered to get a stitch cutter from work, but Chris wouldn't let me! Hope it goes well tomorrow - Cath.

Betty has more antibiotics! The vet said it could just be a reaction to her body breaking down the internal stitches, but doesn't want to risk the possibility that there is an infection going on in there too so has put her on 10 days of antibiotics just to be safe. She's completely fine in herself, not at all bothered by it, so that's a good sign that if there is an infection then it's just in the skin layers and not in her stomach or anything else with potential for worse problems. Great news is that she's put on 1.7kgs since being with us! Only another 3.3 to go...

That sounds a really sensible plan Hope he didn't charge you for the extra abs! 'fraid so! But very kindly was only charged for a re-examination as opposed to a new consultation!
