Haven't been on here recently, been a really rubbish year, my mum became ill in March and we had to take in her little Jackoodle dog, luckily enough that all went well. Sadly she passed away last month. During this time Humphrey started drinking excessively and urinating more so the vet put him on antibiotics, this seemed to help but then he started limping on his front left leg. He was given Metacam but this made him sick and gave him the runs, the same evening his face and eye became swollen, thought it might be a side effect of the Metacam but was assured by the vet it was not. His mouth became very droopy and he was dribbling a lot, which he is still doing. He was changed from Metacam to Previcox, he seemed very disorientated and wobbly so took him off the Previcox. The limp became worse so he went in for x-rays which revealed that he had a calcified disc at the base of his spine which would explain his awkward movement but not his limp.
We had to restrict all exercise for a week and was put back on the Previcox and thankfully he has improved, he is now on ten minute walks and he is much more interested in things. We are going to take him for hydrotherapy and physiotherapy to see how things go and just keep our fingers crossed that things continue to improve.
Was just wondering if any body else had experienced anything like it and what they had done as the vet seem to thinks his combined symptoms are a bit if a mystery.
Look forward to any comments.
Barbara

So sorry to hear about the loss of your Mum Humphreys symptoms sound very mixed as if there is more than one thing going on there, or he did have an adverse reaction to the Metacam, it is possible, even though loads of owners use Metacam it doesn't mean to say it will agree with all dogs. My greyhound had horrible side effects with Previcox and another, newer drug (can't remember the name of it), the only one which suited him was Rimadyl which I know some people don't like because of bad side effects. I hope your lad continues to improve, are you using glucosamine with chondroitin, this can help with movement. Sending get well thoughts to Humphrey Jacqui x

Poor Humphrey, sounds as if he's really been in the wars. Hope they get to the bottom of it soon so you can get him back to full health.

We are taking him for short walks and he enjoying that and showing more interest than he was. It's his 9th birthday today so he is being spoilt more than usual. Thanks again Barbara
