Basically what happened .......... Nelli was running around like the mad thing she is and she clashed full pelt into Paddy. He reacted in his usual way with a snarl and a nip. Nelli yelped as she smacked into him and Im sure it was just an 'air' nip. There is no broken skin anywhere but while I was checking her out I found a lump on her neck, its just under her ear and at the end of her jawbone. Its about the size of a 20p piece, feels fleshy but kind of hard and it moves slightly. She yelps when I touch it She is going to the vets tomorrow. Is there anything specific I should ask about? Anyone have any clue to what it might be? Im worried sick. Thanks, Sue x

Hi Sue Sorry to hear about Nelli, fingers crossed the vet will be able to put your mind at rest and it is harmless. My dog Paddy had a lump in the exactly the same place as Nelli, there was no fur on the site and he did not appear to be in pain when it was touched. I asked the vet what he thought it might be, for example a cyst but he wouldn't speculate and Paddy had surgery to remove it. The lump turned out to be a mast cell tumour - I wrote quite a bit about it on Dog Talk if you are interested? The important thing is that Paddy is in very good health since removal and the chances of the lump returning are small. Good luck Jo x

We go back to vets on thursday morning, She seems a little better but there is no change in the lump She will have biopsy if no change. Jan, have you got a new mobile number? Baloo had a lump removed from his neck last year, which the vet removed and biopsied - it turned out to be panniculitis, an injection site reaction. And yes, I changed my mobile number after loads of problems with 3 mobile, but lost all my existing numbers when I changed my phone. I'll pm you my new one
