Having been in a similar situation a few months ago I know how very hard it is. He is in the best place, so try to get some rest. Lots of good thoughts, hope it is something easily treatable

Oh God how frightening for you. I don't suppose you slept much last night but I hope this morning brings better news. I'll be thinking of you and Burton all day and just hope he's ok with nothing serious found. Big hugs to both of you and I'll check back for news when I get in from work. Take care. Sian x

ALl crossed - he's in the very best place to be helped so try to get some rest ... if it helps at all I know of 2 dogs who collapsed, couldn't stand, all tests proved inconclusive (one a Saint Bernard for 3 days) then they just got up and were fine Keeping everything crossed for you all. Julie xx

Well had a long wait today the vet didn't come back to us til this evening! The MRI was clear thankfully, the only issue they noticed was a sight slipped disk in his neck but she said that it wasn't compressing the spine so shouldn't cause these issues. She said given there is nothing wrong in his brain they will now look at his heart as that can cause collapse etc. he is having some blood tests and an ECG tomorrow then hopefully he will come home for a day with a 24 hour heart monitor to see if that will pick up any issues. So it remains a mystery for now but at least he is ok, the vet said he seemed much brighter today and like a different dog to yesterday x

That all sounds positive Especially that Burton is obviously feeling a lot better than he was Frustrating when you don't know what's wrong and you can't stop worrying but fingers crossed they can get to the bottom of what is making him ill and start a treatment plan

thnnks for the update, continued positive thoughts for Burton and I hope there's more good news today. It must be a relief to know he's feeling a bit better and they're starting to rule things out. Hugs. Sian x

Thanks, looking forward to hopefully bringing him home today, even if he needs to go back in at some point. I'm a bit nervous in case he collapses again but the vet said to stick to his normal routine at home so they can try to pick up any episodes with the heart monitor. At least I know if he does collapse I just need to try to make him safe and comfortable and he should recover after some rest. I just hope they can find something treatable and it's not one of those complete mystery things! X

That's great that he's coming home Just in case it's related to the disks I'd put him in a Trixe harness and double ended lead so you're not putting pressure on his neck If it's his heart I kept my last lurcher alive with medication PLUS Neem Multi capsules .. won't bore you with the details but he coudn't have survived without either and the Neem was as important as the meds (and a lot cheaper) Great news - you must be relieved to get him back Julie

Well it turns our we're not having burton home just yet He had another episode this morning and the vet took some took blood at the same time. His blood glucose was v v low. Her theory is that he is over producing insulin which his making his blood sugar plummet and he is basically fainting when he collapses as he is so weak. She said this can often be due to a tumour in the pancreas thy have done an ultra sound of his abdomen today, but the pancreas couldn't be seen as it was blocked by another organ. So he will need a CT scan however their scanner is currently broken! They are going to try to use the equine one otherwise they will have to order the part and do it on Monday. Whether we can have him home for the weekend depends how he is doing. They are currently feeding him every hour and medicating him to keep him stable and he seems ok. The vet does seem to think its likely that surgery will be required, but there is quite a good success rate of surgery on pancreas tumours (but stil risky and obviously depends on the nature of it). So back to being on pins waiting again but at least we know he is ok in the meantime. Our insurance limit is being eaten away though with all the tests x

I'm sorry that he's not home with you yet it must be so hard with all the waiting and waiting. No experience in the condition I'm afraid, only to say we're all rooting for Burtons quick return to you and a diagnosis too Sarah x

Well the vet phoned yesterday, they did the CT scan which confirmed a tumour in his pancreas He said she has discussed it with the surgeon who thinks the position of it means there is a good chance they can operate and remove it. She said they are hoping to do the surgery on Monday/ Tuesday and all being well he should be able to come home on Thursday or Friday. Really worried about the operation and the outcome but at least they are optimistic that they can remove it he will make a full recovery. That will be his third general anaesthetic in the space of a week my poor boy. In the meantime they are giving him steroids and feeding him every hour to keep his blood sugar stable. Miss him so much, they don't let you visit in case it makes them more unsettled when you leave. Just really hoping that he can come home next week and that he will recover from this x
