As you all know, Jo has had to curtail her GG activities due to her looking after family members who are rather poorly.
I have therefore offered to look at a few new ways of fundraising for GG here in the North West. Jan and Fran continue to organise and expand the street collections and I have therefore decided to look at a few new ideas for this area starting with Railway Stations.
I was told to contact Nettie and JoandChris as they had done collections at Waterloo and York respectively. They have answered with lots of useful info including references to various websites.
It turns out that in our area the stations are run by a variety of different managers e.g. Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Piccadilly are run by Network Rail but Preston is run by Virgin Trains and Blackpool North by Northern Trains. Depending upon the extent of the proposed collections and the response of the various station managers, this split of responsibilities is obviously going to mean a fair amount of duplication and before I embark on the exercise I would like to receive some indication from hounds and their owners who live in the area of what kind of support there is for such proposals. Obviously no dates are yet fixed so that makes my request non-specific but if you think you can help in general terms, please let me know.
And don't forget - if this summer is like last summer, at least the stations have roofs and you would be out of the rain!!
Thank you
Chris Welch

I personally think mainline Railway Stations are a brilliant idea, which hasn't been tapped into in the North West as yet. We wouldn't be able to help at them as from March to November our type of work required us to work weekends and have Mondays & Tuesdays off instead! I know Manchester Piccadilly is always a very busy station and as you say, its undercover....or you can stand just outside but I think everyone seems in a rush once they get outside, whereas on the station itself, they are usually hanging around Good luck in getting 'permission'!

I think what you need to remember though is that while the stations are busy, they are busy with people rushing to get trains and not necessarily having time to stop.
