Tabsi has spent the past two days doing lots of sort of snorting backwards noises like she can't catch her breath They have lasted a few minutes at a time, is this a dog cold?

Sounds like a reverse sneeze? Try cupping your hand gently over her nose, sometimes it helps to sort their breathing again. Bless her

Thanks Kay that sounds just like it, I knew it wasn't anything worrying but didn't know how to stop it Hope she's not developing an allergy to us

It does sound like reverse sneezing and ,being very common in the breed, has made many a new cavalier owner panic. Some dogs just do it, but with others it's brought on by excitement, greedy eating and drinking or knocking the throat during play.
Mine don't do it often, but I use the fingers over nostrils method, while some people swear by gently rubbing the throat.
