Hi all, little bit of advice - over the last week or so my greyhound Dave has been slipping on the wood floors in the house, he's lost his confidence a bit and is now whining not to be on them. We've had to put some towels down to help him get around. He has been with us a little over a year and has always coped with them fine in the past. It can't be age related as he is only 3. Anyone have an experience with this? Could it be that his pads have lost a bit of grip due to the snow - would some cream help? They look ok, not obviously cracked or damaged. He had his claws clipped just before Xmas so definately not this either. Other than slipping he is normal self and still enjoying his walks, zoomies, food and sleep so dont think its a health/leg injury issue. Thanks

You could try 'paw wax' which should give him some extra grip.

Our current foster dog has floor issues We've got hardflooring throughout the downstairs and we've got pieces of vetbed everywhere for her. We've had quite a few dogs that are fine some days then other days its like they are walking on ice! Midget is so funny, yesterday she went straight through the kitchen into the utility room then turned round and started crying cos she couldn't get back out She walked in absolutely fine but then decided it was far too slippy on the way back out ;D I ignored her and after a while she came out on her own quite happily. Our old boy used to walk fine on it for ages then some days he'd curl his feet and be walking on his nails slipping all over the place. Funny creatures aren't they?

Our greyhound was phobic about walking on slippery floors. A few slips and that was it - he refused point blank to walk on laminate ever again. It was a bit of a hassle as our entire downstairs is laminate flooring. Nothing we tried got him back to being confident on laminate/wood - so we just had to put rugs every where. It doesnt look nice - but hey ho - that's life - there was no way we were getting rid of Buster just because he was scared of walking on laminate. It got much worse too - when he lost a leg to cancer. See photo below taken many years ago. Buster on one of the many rugs we had to have around ....... before he got cancer.

Maybe the last time he slipped he hurt himself so that's why he now doesn't want to walk on the floor ... mats especially rubber backed ones are great to give him grip and confidence

Same here. We've got laminate throughout the house (except main bedroom), and tripod Mace sometimes decides it's far too scary to walk on, and other days is absolutely fine. We've invested in some cheap runners (Wilkinsons) to put down in strategic locations throughout.

We have runners round three sides of the dining table and have left the area in front of the work surfaces clear to discourage Jet from coming to "investigate" while we're cooking!! However, depending on what's on the menu he has been known to brave the scary laminate and tippy toe over it!! Greyhounds, eh?

Yes they are strange beasts! Dave will happily walk into the kitchen to get his dinner when we put it out, then once he's finished he's whining to not want to walk on the floor back to his bed in the living room. Hopefully it'll just pass, and he does seems to getting better again.
