Would you recommend having the Kennel Cough vaccine spray?
My previous Grey had it because the vets said at that particular time the Kennel Cough in this area was high.
I've since been told that there are various strains of Kennel Cough and unless you have the right vaccine it doesn't work.
Would welcome any advice. Thanks

Julie, OMG! I didn't know any of this. Of course my main trouble now is insurance companies won't insure you if your dog isn't given the usual annual vaccinations:( I only have an injury and accident cover, but even then they have to be done.
I have put the link to the site on my Blog and also on two FB groups and emailed the link to all my friends who have dogs.
Thank you so much for opening my eyes.

With regard annual vaccinations most manufacturer's protocols are not annual anymore although a lot of vets still vaccinate every year. Best thing to do is to look up the protocol of the vaccine manufacturer your vet uses. Most protocols are now every 3 years for distemper, parvo and a couple of others and annually for leptosperosis and canine parainfluenza. If your vets aren't happy about the protocol then just print off the datasheet and give it to them. The datasheets can be found on the 'net.

Personally speaking, one of my hounds had the nasal vaccination and it made her sick in the car afterwards My reasoning for having the vaccination was that she mingles off-lead with foster dogs straight out of kennels, some of which have only just been collected. Also a friend's Bearded Collie got kennel cough and they spent a considerable amount of money on treatment because the dog couldn't shake it off. Wasn't really aware of the various strain argument which makes perfect sense and so I don't think I will have it again. Jo

Thanks Nettie and Jo. We all want what is best for our dog/s, but it's not made easy. Think it is totally wrong of inusrance companies for demanding we vaccinate, if it isn't necessary every year.

Last year we did for the hound (didn't for the other dog) purely as her vaccinations came up due just before we were due to put them into kennels to go away for a wedding anyway - otherwise it's one I probably would have missed out on.
Our insurance (two different companies we're with but both seem to have a very similar clause) basically states that if we don't vaccinate - the stuff that we would have vaccinated against isn't covered - but we keep up to date with it for boarding kennel purposes really - we couldn't board them there if they were unvaccinated... and especially at the moment in case I end up with another prem baby at god-knows what hospital happens to have room vaguely in the midlands, we want to have the option to board them in an emergency without having to worry about anything additional.

Dizzi, Again it seems unfair that boarding kennels insist on vaccinations, when they don't seem necessary.
Sure hope your pregnancy goes ok.

I work at a boarding kennels. We have to insist on the normal vacs being up to date, otherwise we aren't covered by our insurance.
The kennel Cough vac isn't compulsory though.

None of my dogs have ever had a kennel cough vac, apart from Andy who we kennelled once and they insisted on it.

Helen & AndyWillow, Except in emergency situations, Polly would not be put into kennels. If they insisted on KC vac, I'd have to get it done, but otherwise I have decided to leave it. My girl came from RGT kennels and she hadn't been given it there.
My issue now is the other vaccinations. So much conflicting info:(
