Tabsi is a little Romanian street dog who has had a hell of a life up to now. Rescued from the streets of Romania she was bought to the UK under the care of FOArct. Sadly Tabsi managed to give her transporters the slip on Stafford Services and spent 48 hours happily filling her face from passing strangers and wasnt sure why we all didnt think it was the best place for her! Compared to the streets of Romania it was a breeze! This is where we got involved heading down to see her and advise how best to get her in! Thankfully it worked and those on the services were able to apprehend her that night.
Tabsi then moved into foster but sadly the resident bitch was not accomodating and was running Tabsi away from the house. This meant that a dog that had only lived the streets till that point was getting more and more worried and bemused. Tabsi move to Gap kennels a couple of months ago and we have been working with her confidence.
Tabsi's needs for foster
Tabsi gets her confidence from other dogs and adores them. A home with a couple of quieter greyhounds would be absolutely ideal.
As Tabsi has no experience whatsoever of indoor life she understandably refuses to go indoors. However, coaxed with food we have now got her happily passing into and out of buildings confidently. Her foster home must be willing to be patient and accept that on bringing her in they may not get her out for a couple of days and may have accidents. She needs people sensible and commited enough to just leave her be. She is a VERY intelligent dog and needs to be left alone to work things out for herself. Reassurance will just cause her to become more concerned, worried and back off from you.
Ideally a home with someone around most or all of the time to continue building that bond. Tabsi is lovely with children BUT as she is very nervy a home with older children at least 14 plus would be best or if slightly younger VERY dog savy.
Tabsi is very food motivated. Being a street dog its the only thing she knew/knows. She will happily approach you and come into your personal space BUT will back off quickly if you move directly into her space. She needs leaving be and allowing to approach you in her own time. We do see still when we are trying to leash her up in the kennels that when cornered she will drop to her back and try to nip desperately at your hand. There is no malice with it and no aggression just a scared little hound who has probably spent many years being chased and grabbed at. HOWEVER, she is now so overly excited to be offered a walk its getting easier and easier to put the lead onto her. Once out on her walks she is a joy to behold, she walks beautifully with her tail and head held up high and prances like a little show pony.
PLEASE PLEASE IF THERE WAS A CHRISTMAS WISH WE COULD HAVE THIS YEAR IT WOULD BE FOR SOMEONE WITH TIME, PATIENCE, LOVE AND UNDERSTANDING PLUS A CALMER HOUSEHOLD TO COME FORWARD FOR OUR SPECIAL GIRL. WE ALL ADORE HER AND SHE REALLY *IS* READY NOW TO MAKE THE NEXT STEP INTO FOSTER. I ADORE THIS GIRL AND YOU HAVE MY GUARANTEE YOU WILL HAVE MY TOTAL SUPPORT ALTHOUGH I ENVISAGE HER BEING A VERY EASY GIRL TO HAVE AROUND ONCE SETTLED.
CAN YOU MAKE TABSI'S CHRISTMAS WISH COME TRUE AND HELP PUT AN END TO ALL HER BAD DAYS AND HELP HER TOWARDS THE ULTIMATE GOAL OF A FOREVER SOFA??
I think you will all agree that since her first photos on this thread she has come a long way! The credit for that is all down to her, she has a heart as big as an Ocean and from totally crud beginnings is so desperate to trust and give trust back....
