it's so terribly sad reading this and just so damn unnecessary. Complete and utter waste of money, cruelty and madness.

Why oh why don't they just ban the bloody things. Paris is the same as Willow, every year my heart goes out to poor Paris. Have tried everything & I mean everything. Pacey & Solly are upset by them, but they will settle themselves down somewhere & just shake. Thsi year we have booked ourselves a little cottage in the middle of nowhere At New Year last year Alan took Paris out in the car about 11:20pm, drove up the motorway stopped on a deserted service station & Paris was quite happy in the back of car for an hour & then he drove back.

Thankyou for all the tip, it's just the kids letting them off now xx

I agree with you greyality chuck, they should ban the blemin things, or just allow proper displays, even then it's awful for the pets living nearby. xx

Next year 2013 Bonfire night and Diwali day are on the same weekend so I've booked us a week away in Norfolk. I love Norfolk and am happy to go BUT it pizzes me off that we are forced out of our house which should be a refuge because of fireworks or bombs as they are round here. We have loads at Diwali it's worse than bonfire night. Someone has started a petition on FB but don't mention Diwali celebrations. We've had them every night this week but not too loud but next weekend which is my Birthday means again we can't go out for a meal or anything , we can't even relax in our own home because as well as Bonfire weekend they switch on the Diwali lights about a mile away and have a huge firework display and then the neighbours set theirs off at home so double trouble. I feckin hate it.

Never had sucess with anything apart from xanax from the vet for Maddie but my friend has just bought an adaptil collar (was dap) for her dog and it's had an amazing effect. He has been so frightened in the past he's actually had fits. Zylkene takes the edge off too but the collar has made a bigger difference. My vet's selling Calm Aid and say some dogs have reacted really well. Tried Mads on it and it seemed to heighten all her responses though All Adaptil stuff is on a good offer at MedicAnimal, free p+p, good price and 20% off as you check out.

Eva is a very timid young lady around strangers, but a raging nutter at home. She shakes and quakes as if she is possessed. We've taken her to two M & G along with bruvva Merlin who is the life and soul of the party in the hope of toughening her up. Today at Horwich P@H the manager suggested a Thunder Shirt and let her wear it during the collection. First impression is that it works It will need a few more goes before Bonfire night but she was actually letting people stroke her after 30 mins or so without hiding behind mummy and daddy's legs ;D which is unusual, so fingers crossed it will work. I'll give an update after the 5th. Fortunately we live in a village so we don't have too many problems with random fireworks, but I too hate them with a passion Hx

The latest advice I've read was not to ignore them, as this can re-enforce the stress, but also not to make a huge fuss. If they want a reassuring cuddle, then let them snuggle close, and just lie near you and have a fuss. This obviously won't work if they are terrified and won't settle, but if they're worried it stops it escalating to terror. Dex fretted about fireworks and noisy planes when we had him, by doing this with Dex, he's gone from fretting and whimpering to just standing with a cocked ear when they start, and settles down to bed in a few minutes. I don't hate fireworks per se, but I don't understand why they have to be so noisy Emma x

How's everyone managing so far?? We've had a few the last couple of nights but probably due to the awful weather its not been too bad and with the tv up pretty loud we could hardly hear them. Result - 4 dogs snoring their heads off all night. The big local displays are over the next few nights

I know just how you feel....... The bangs started here at 5 tonight just as I was going to feed our 3. Now 2 are madly pacing up and down and the 3rd one is shaking like a leaf. Wish the d*** things could be banned....at least with money being tight prehaps not too many family fireworks.

Very proud of how our three are coping tonight . We're ignoring the bangs, have retreated to the basement bedroom and have turned the telly on loud . Twirly and Barney are terrified but finding comfort in being hand-fed sossidges , and Biggly couldn't really give a monkey's whether there's a war on outside or not! We've basically resigned ourselves to having to live like a family of troglodytes for the next few days! Jo x

Since ignoring the ''ignore the dogs fear advice ''and having Tia on the sofa in close bodily contact with myself and /or Dave and gently stroking her now and again, she is a different dog. Asleep legs in the air. She really was bad we've resorted to driving around in the country side before now.It is quite bad here tonight. The test will be Diwali 13th/14th which tends to be worse.Because Tia is calm so are the others , so I'm calmer which in turn keeps Tia calm. She even went out for a wee on her lead. I know if it gets louder she may not cope so well but I'm very proud of her my independent little minx finally putting her trust in and needing me.
