Can only imagine someone or something freaked him out if he has settled comfortably in this situation previously.

Just a thought but is their someone locally who could watch yours and then you return the favor ? alternatively maybe a dog walker for one of the dogs at a time- an hour each- that would be your 2 hours or maybe out together as often second dog is cheaper ?
Just a thought, might be expensive but at least it would be a stop gap solution and take the pressure of a bit ...

Sorry not much advice to give I'm afraid other than what's been suggested already but I do know how you feel as our boy Ernie ate through both front seatbelts within a couple of weeks of arriving and my other half was not best pleased especially as the car was due for it's MOT! Ours aren't left in the car that often but if they are it's muzzles now I'm afraid and once they know they can't wreck anything they go straight to sleep!! Good luck with your two!

Is it an estate car? Would a fitted cage be too expensive?

Just to say I have a dog crate for sale .. we were given it for the RGT, it fits a Mondeo Estate I think (tho goes in my Freelander ok) and is by Trystorme, I'm doing measurements from memory so I THINK ... 27'' high, 40.5''x36.5'' wide and long. It's got a locking door and keys plus an esacpe hatch at the back- I'm asking £50 for it. If possible I could post it tho if you are coming down to Birmingham you (or someone) could collect it from the RGT kennels if that's helpful Please PM me here if you're interested Julie

Wow right down to the metal that sounds like a real nightmare. I think the suggestion about the muzzle sounds good but a crate would be even better!
