Den has been very odd since he went to training yesterday. I'm not sure if there is something wrong with him or if he's playing up.
After class yesterday he pretty much slept all day - I wasn't surprised as the class really tires him out, then we walked back home and he had another walk in the afternoon too and the weather was grim anyway.
At dinner time he didn't want to finish his dinner but if anyone went near it he stood by it. Eventually he did eat it so I didn't think anything of it. He had a pigs ear last night and did exactly the same thing with it. I was on the verge of taking it from him as I was going out and didn't want to leave two dogs alone while I went out with one pigs ear but then he decided to eat it.
It's very unusual that I go out in the evening but they are always fine when I do go out and Den is used to being left regularly anyway while I am at work. I went out about 7.30 and got back at 11. Apart from that I hadn't left him all day. When I got in someone (It would only be Den) had peed on a towel I had left in the floor for washing. It was still warm as though it had just been done, perhaps as he heard me returning.
I then pretty much went straight to bed after letting the dogs out. Again, that's what I would usually do if I'm home late. The dogs sleep in my room on their beds. Occasionally they will come up on my bed for 5 minutes for a cuddle and then get down of their own accord - there has never been an issue about them feeling my bed belongs to them and they generally aren't interested in it anyway.
When I went to bed Den lay on it next to me, wanting to rest his chin on me or have some contact with me. As usual he got down after a few minutes and went to his bed. About an hour later he woke me up crying and then spent until about 3am behaving very oddly: pacing around, lying on my bed for a few minutes whimpering, then the same on his bed, then on the chair, then standing on the chair looking out of the window. Then pacing around the house and pawing at the carpet as though he thought something was there, then lying on my bed again, his eyes just fixed. I took him outside and he just had a pee. He did seem genuinely distressed and at the time I was panicking a bit and thought there was something very wrong with him.
He did eventually go back to his bed and slept the rest of the night and was as normal as anything this morning - chasing pigeons, eating treats on his walk. He's done the same thing about his dinner this morning, but I have removed it now. I don't like doing that but I don't want him guarding it. He's asleep again now and seems chilled. He's been fine since Gabe left so I don't think it's anything to do with that.
Lucky Frankie managed to sleep through the entire night's antics so she woke up nice and refreshed this morning at 7.30 and was very eager to give Den and I our alarm call!
Den's never behaved like that at night before in all the time I've had him so am a bit puzzled. What do people think - is he misbehaving or does it sound like there's something wrong with him.?
