Hi.
Am after a bit of advice regarding Poppy.
Since we have had her (all of two weeks ;D ) she has taken stuff... not to chew or anything she just collects it in a big pile. There is no system what she takes ranges from shoes and rubbish to attempting to steal the laptop and the dining room table - quite what she was going to do with that i dont know!!
i am a bit concerned that she is taking stuff because she is bored? She isnt left alone and the hoarding is when we are all home, she is walked for about 2 hours a day in 2 seperate walks as well as access to the garden all day to run and play.
If it is boredom - what can we do to help?

Has she been spayed? Dulcie is famous in Gapland for her hoarding behaviour, Sue, her foster Mom found all sorts in her crate Emma x ;D ;D ;D Dulcie was speyed but loved to hoard allsorts of stuff in her crate ;D It ranged from mainly dog toys to shoes, slippers, gloves, scarves, a pack of mini sweetcorns, pack of mushrooms and even my camera ;D ;D She never damaged everything but just couldnt resist pinching stuff ;D Oh and she's still doing it in her new home now! ETA. I know she wasnt bored, I'm around all day and she had plenty of walks and so had the television which she loved to watch ;D

Yep she is spayed..
Lol ok so it seems its just a lady grey thing lol. She does make me laugh cos she greatly over estimates her abilities.. not quite sure what she was planning to do with the laptop or the dining room table!
She seems happy enough in General, and has Eddison to play with, and carl takes her out to play ball for a bit each day too (Eddison doesnt like that game, he will retrieve it once.. after that if you are silly enough to throw it again its your fault!)
We were just a little worried that we should be doing something for her and we werent.
Thanks for the replies.

If she's half as entertaining as Dulcie was you won't need the tele on at all ;D ;D How old is she? Dulcie was 4 but acted like a puppy most of the time ;D

Anna was an avid collector of "treasure" until the novelty wore off, sounds like Poppy wants to furnish her own room though ;D ;D ;D

I think it's just a general grey thing as opposed to a ladygrey thing: Barney's a swine for swiping random things that he has no use whatsoever for! ;D ;D He just snags stuff with his teeth as he walks past and plods off with it in his mouth ;D ;D ;D When he first came here we didn't realize that he was stashing his hoard under the edge of our bed, and when we found his booty pile there was all sorts in there - shoes, gas bills, banana peel . . . you name it! ;D Aren't they funny? Has she shredded any newspapers yet? Jo x

Lol she is 2.. and yes she is sooo entertaining. Especially if she knows you are watching cos she will wave the item she is pinching at you as she goes past.
It makes me laugh because she is very picky about what she wants... she will look down a pile of stuff and chose a specific item rather than grab just anything.
No newspapers shredded yet... altho she does pass things on to Eddison to shread.

I have found the remnants of a Nerf screamer and the poor sheep has lost its stuffing all over the garden too! It was intact as i was mowing the grass both Ed and Poppy were out there so it has to be one of themn as i am sure i didnt run over it!

ALL of my greys have done this to some extent For about a year Peggy collected everything that could be moved:- cushions, dirty washing, socks, slippers, toys, screwdrivers , leaves from the garden , you name it and she would place it very neatly on her bed . She never destroyed anything. She has got better but if she was human she would definately be a hoarder ;D ;D I don't think you have anything to worry about with Poppy . I contacted the rescue I gotPeggy from about this and they advised it is very common and they explained because greyhounds have lived in kennels and had nothing of their own, when they get into a home some of them start to gather things around them like a comfort blanket Poppy sounds lovely, you have given her a safe and loving home and she is not bored but happy. Enjoy her because they are such wonderful companions Maryx

My lurcher used to do this. If you said no to him he would just take it a bit more slowly and deliberately and not look at you as if you couldn't see him if he couldn't see you.

Poppy does that!! we call it the "if i move slowly im invisible" move!!! Am glad she isnt bored just being normal. ;D she thinks its really funny and is sat nexto me on the sofa alternating between trying to move the laptop, bite the knitting needles or run off with the wool!

Has she started on your cups yet, our dogs favourite thing is for Lizzy to snaffle your tea and Roxy nicks the cup after ;D I don't drink milk so mine is safe but anyone else has to be on their guard ;D ;D Whenever I can't find stuff it's odds on bet Roxy has had it down the sofa or in her bed, she also does the champions parade around the lounge, showing everyone that she has something and it's hers, because she found it. They make me laugh so much
