Sorry if this isn't the right place... I've been advised by a 'lurcher friend' to post here! However, I'm not a rescue so wasn't sure where to post! Please do move if it's in the wrong place.
I had a call today from someone regarding a 12 year old lurcher due to be pts tomorrow.
The owner has now put off the appointment until such a time that either we find him somewhere, or she decides we're not going to be successful.
All I know is that he is 12 years old, rough coated, going blind due to cateracts and is having accidents in the house (this is apparently why she is having him put to sleep. She says his quality of life is still good and he enjoys his walk but she can't be doing with the toileting anymore).
Her partner contacted me in the hope he wouldn't have to be put to sleep, so I said I'd see what I could do although I don't know how likely it is to find a home willing to take on a dog with this problem already.
Apparently he is good with other dogs and has lived fine with cats. However, his eyes are now going and so I would be wary of trusting him completely around dogs/cats/kids. He can sometimes have a bit of a problem with other male dogs but is usually ok. He isn't neutered.
Is there any chance of someone interested in taking this boy? I can arrange local transport or can take him part way to someone if necessary. He is currently in Worksop.
I have little experience of lurchers and so have to confess I don't know how disturbing it will be for him to be moved now, but thought I'd give it a go - I haven't assessed this lad, the owner and her partner have both given slightly varied descriptions of how he is affected by his age and he hasn't been vet checked for a year...
I know it's a long shot, but thought I'd see if anyone could help!
If you can help, please email me: info@pawsitivelypets.co.uk as I may not get chance to check here regularly.
Thank you.
