I wonder if some of the delay in progressing this is that firstly corns only affect greys (& possibly some lurchers bred from greys) It is interesting that Millie is whippet x saluki and not a grey/lurcher. I've heard that whippets can have corns, but not salukis? Maybe she's just v. unlucky?

I asked Daniel about whether other dogs got corns, and he said that it's typically a greyhound thing because of their low body fat, but that other similarly skinny-type dogs (like some lurchers and whippets) could get them.
Interestingly, Fanta is Mr Skinny and always has been, and he has got a corn. So far (touch wood) Eva, who is a rather better doer, seems to be corn free.
Has anybody got a fat greyhoud with corns?

Very interesting and I'll file his name away .. maybe (as a fellow control freak ) he wants to make sure that the treatment is being done properly before he lets you loose with the cream .. I got rid of a corn from Tig's foot .. I sanded the corn down when we came back from a walk, put some Neem Oil on it then bandaged over that so it stayed in place and left it on till the next walk .. I changed it about three times a day and it took a couple of weeks or so but it went and never came back J xx

Jess has terrible corns - two large ones on each front foot - and she is (I think) mainly whippet with a bit of greyhound. She is a very skinny dog, so maybe there's something in the body fat theory.

We've used Daniel for greyhound corn treatment. Major success. pm me if you'd like to know more but I'd recommend it to anyone.

friends of ours have used him, they were very sceptical at first, but having tried everything else they decided to give him a go. Ita been a complete success so far & the hound is 100% better do hope that this cure is soon rolled out to all - these corns really are a nightmare for our beloved hounds

Well, Millie's booked in for the first of 3 treatments on 2nd April, so we are gearing ourselves up for the long trip. In the meantime, she does seem a lot sounder now since the hulling of the corn last weekend but she's def not 100 percent. I bought a therapaws boot which does help a lot on hard standing, but it's not ideal - I think it makes her foot a bit hot and at first we didn't fit it right and it looked like a diver's flipper but I think we've got it sussed now. It does get a bit loose from time to time so it's def not a long term solution. I'll keep you updated with how it all goes. Thanks to everyone for their input - it's really helped me come to the decision to go and see Mr D.

Went back to see Daniel Doherty today and no sign of a corn in the original foot which had treatment, so it seems to have worked! The other foot had a thorn in it, now removed, so hopefully in a few days we will have a sound hound. Hope the treatment works for Millie!

Just a quick update ... Millie had her first session with Daniel Doherty on Saturday. He pulled out a tiny scrap of glass from her pad, which he said would have been the cause of the corn He then put on the magic paste and bandaged her up. We have to go back for another 2 weeks. She's already walking a lot better, even with the big red bandage, but keeping it dry has been a bit dicey since (of course!) it's started to rain a lot now (it's been dry for months here ). Anyway, have ordered some rubber boots to go on over the bandage (thanks for the suggestion) so will get those delivered tomorrow hopefully. Thanks to everyone who pm'd me and told me their encouraging stories - they helped me make my mind up. I don't have a car, so we did the trip by train from half way up the Welsh border to West Drayton station. We left the house at 7.30am on Sat and arrived back 13 hours later - good job Millie doesn't mind the train and was quite settled. She got a lot sympathy once she was sporting her bandage and even got given a piece of beefburger by a concerned passenger in First Class (we were not in 1st I hasten to add). I'm so hoping this will all work and she'll be sound again soon .. thanx all.

That's fantastic news. It's definitely decided me that I'm going to contact Daniel Doherty. If you can do that mammoth journey we can definitely do the 90-minute drive from Brighton! Hope Millie continues to make good progress.

Thanks Ailsa - I'll keep you updated as to how it goes. The journey is a bit epic. If Millie didn't travel well I just couldn't do it, but she does seem to like the train , which for a nervous girl is amazing really. She really does surprise me sometimes!

Hope no one minds me asking.. but what do the corns look like? Are they like corns on humans? Any pics etc. They sound so awful and a bloody nuisance... I would like to know so that if Herb or Milo develop them I can spot them early etc Joe is Herb's brother and he lost his toe because of them .. poor Joe... ...so I dont know if there may be a family tendancy to develop them etc Thanks. Lorraine
