" The presence of dogs on our collection might be an issue due to the cultural diversity of the population of Manchester"
Jo, am I missing something? I know I've just returned from holiday so I'm still happy, but what has our dogs got to do with the cultural diversity. Or should I just use my imagination on why they have a problem with dogs......
Hx
Well, the chap that I spoke with in Licensing at Manchester City Council said that the Street Environmental Officer would probably have an issue with dogs being present because there is a large Muslim population in Manchester, and Muslims consider the saliva of dogs to be unclean.
HOWEVER . . .
The Street Environmental Officer called me yesterday (after a lot of chasing!) and he said "Who told you there'd be a problem? Rubbish! As long as your collectors are sensible and discreet and are positioned such that they are approached as opposed to approaching, there will be no objections raised by me as members of the public will have to choice to meet or avoid the dogs. I'm all for promoting responsible dog ownership and it sounds like a very worthy cause" ;D ;D ;D. Then he went on to say "They make lovely pets, I believe? Very quiet and laid back . . .". SUCH a nice man!
Armed with the new knowledge I'll approach Licensing again next week to see if they'll tell me when is free date-wise. They've been a bit cagey so far telling us to submit our dates blind and take pot luck, but the collecting calendar is filling up Gap-wise and a pre-Christmas weekend when the Christmas markets are open would be fantastic . . . fingers crossed that we're all free when (if) there are available dates. Watch this space . . .
Jo
