When we saw Teddy on Lurcher Link, we thought he looked the image of our lurcher bitch Kip. He had been passed to Greyhound Gap and fostered by Danny and Annie. After several chats to Lisa and our homecheck from Corinne, we made the 2.5 hour journey in the pouring rain on 23rd November 2008, just to see how Ted and Kip got on (as she can be stroppy with some dogs) then we would go back a week later. Needless to say, he came back with us that day (although he wasn't the image of Kip as he's a saluki cross and she's a greyhound/collie).
He settled in immediately, although he did get a good telling off from Kip when he grabbed her round the neck in play. He was subdued for all of 5 minutes! Now they love chasing and it's a joy to watch them (as long as they're not thundering towards you! I have been knocked off my feet, when I tried to step out of the way!) Ted's recall skills were non-existent at first and they're not fantastic now, although we have realised that he has no intention of being left behind and if he thinks you're walking off without him, he soon catches up! He copies Kip and is learning to "come round" when he does decide to come. He has also learned to play ball as this is Kip's favourite game although Ted's "fetch" is variable! He has caught 2 rabbits, both of which survived as, in both cases, the rabbit played dead and Ted nudged them with his nose to try and make them run. As soon as his collar was grabbed, the rabbits opened their eyes and shot away!
Like Kip, Ted is wonderful with children and "golden oldies". We have never known a dog so devoted to his beauty sleep. He often takes himself off upstairs to bed early in the evening and has to be called down to go out last thing at night. In the mornings he seldom stirs until we've been up about an hour!
He is utterly adorable, loves cuddles, food and his bed and we are so lucky to have two beautiful dogs.
So, thank you very much Lisa and Greyhound Gap.
