Just bit of advice really, due to an incident the other day a Stewarts Park. Evie is now the proud new owner of a harness, problem is she HATES it. It is like going out walking dragging a sac of depressed spuds behind you Obviously am going to persist with it, but, how do I go about this without making her dislike of harness worse than it already is. Do I use it on all walks? Could I leave it on her in the house (whilst I am in), so she gets used to it? Am a bit confused how to help her with this, I am not even sure if the harness is something stressful from her past. She has only started to wear this today, but I really do not want to make it an issue for her by stressing her.

I had a problem with River when I first tried him with a harness, he stood rooted to the spot with fear so I gave up, but not long ago while we were out he pulled his neck so I swapped Gracies harness for his collar in the middle of the field and walked off. He had 2 options and wisely decided to follow me and come home and has been fine since. Have you let her have a good look and sniff of it off? Try rewarding her with a very tasty treat when you put it on. As long as you are keeping an eye on her I would put it on in the house and perhaps try what I did and put it on part way through her walk when she is relaxed. Is it fitting well so its not chafing? their skin is so delicate it takes next to nothing to make it sore. I use these greyhoundgap.proboards35.com/index.cgi?board=2222&action=display&thread=33486&page=1the fleece makes them very snuggly. Good luck!

Thank you for reply, will try making it a more positive experience. I am just worried will lose my little girl for the sake of a harness, due to fact she is pulling out of collar. It is me that is over reacting, because I thought I would never get her back the other day I think what I need to do is take a deep breath, and start again

What sort of collar are you using? I found Gracie and Maddie could back out of a leather one in an instant no matter how tight it was but non of our dogs have never slipped a martingale. All of ours have come from gap, made by Helen or Anna.

Yes Evie does have a leather collar, will pop and have a look at martingales.
Have now added some extra padding to the harness, and Evie is much happier to walk in it ;D

When I've used a harness in the past I've used a training lead with hooks at both ends, and similar to those shown here - www.mekuti.co.uk/leads.htmYou can then attach one end to the harness and the other end to the collar. If you tried that you wouldn't necessarily have to put any pressure on her through the harness, but it would be there as insurance should she slip her collar. Jackie x
