Def no expert but when I posted on here about one of our dogs grumbling and barking at other dogs, no lunging etc, when they met , Lisa pointed out she was actually doing nothing wrong the other dogs wre up to her face greeting her which is very rude.As an older and well mannered dog Molly took exception. I then made sure other people let there dogs greet Molly sideways on and we honestly never had another grumble from her. Good luck with your Hound.

I took my 3 fosters to the local dog training and just sat and watched the session, the dog's then began to understand that hound wasn't the only shape and size, which in turn helped when outside walking (less chance of the freaking out and barking)

many, many thanks to all for your kind posts.
an update of sorts;
we decided to leave the connecting front room/dining room and kitchen door open whilst we go out. she does seem a lot happier now. a lot calmer when we come in. she sits on the sofa now when we're out but to be honest, as one of the posters here made me realise, that's a small price to pay for her not chewing up the door frames!
as for other dogs...yes, it seems i might have to be sociable and spend time with other dog owners. doesn't come that naturally to me, ha, ha. but if needs must!
and i'm hearing you loopy! if other dogs are quiet and keep her distance then she treats them with respectful caution. it's only if they get in her face and start barking does she react (jack russells seem the worst!)...i kinda see where she's coming from, lol.
will definitely try the sideways thing.
as an aside, we got home and she was in such high spirits tonight; playing with her toys and charging about from the garden through the dining room into the lounge, really nice to see. i read somewhere that rescue greyhounds often have to learn to have fun and relax, seems like that to me!
take care all.

Sounds like you're all doing really well ;D Charging about and playing so soon is wonderful progress, it can take months or years even, and some like my lurcher boy never get it . She sounds very happy You know what comes next if you hang around here don't you..... hound no 2

As mentioned before, I think it is very early days. We have had Amber for 15 months and she is still wary of other dogs whilst on lead - offlead she is fine and loves to play with them. Onlead she still barks but only sometimes, she particularly does not like golden retrievers, so perhaps she had a bad experience with them. It has taken us this long for things to improve and, at least she is much better with small dogs.
Like you, we were disappointed that we would not be able to attend any country shows or the Gap show as Amber's behaviour would clear the field! However, we now know that there is improvement so we have high hopes that we will make the show perhaps in 2010!
When we leave the house we cover the sofas with throws, leave a T-shirt of ours and allow her the run of all of the ground floor of the house. We walk her for 45 minutes before we leave and this means that she will sleep for three hours. We never leave any food as I am worried that she may choke. I have made it a habit to say bye bye, see you later - sounds daft but she seems to know that these words mean that we are about to go out and she is now very calm and settles down before we leave.
We are not very experienced but we understand how difficult it is during the early days. It is worth it, we miss her so much when we go out and can't wait to get home to be greeted so enthusiastically! Happy houndy days to you and your family!

However, we now know that there is improvement so we have high hopes that we will make the show perhaps in 2010! Interestingly, overkill sometimes does the trick! We have a lurcher who sometimes reacts on lead to an approaching dog, but when faced with lots of hounds at a show, he doesn't make a sound.
