Hi Gappers, I'm not going to give public details of where this hound is, he isn't in pts situation or anything and has a roof of sorts over his head but he is in a very bad state, doddering about on his poor old legs and wheezing like a bellows and I have been asked to help and am determined to get him somewhere warm before the day is out. He needs to be in either a house or at least a heated kennel. I won't know until later just how bad he is, and I want to get him to vet tomorrow. He is very unlikely to get vet care where he is I'm chasing up everyone I know locally who might do an emergency foster but lots are out as it's Sunday. I can't give him the sanctuary of our living room as it now floods every time it rains Will update this thread with developments but basically am saying watch this space. He is a neutered ex-racer btw.

Off to collect him shortly and take him to emergency foster He will be tucked up in a home by evening with as many blankets as he likes. Then I will take him to vet tomorrow. This thread can be closed or moved to Dog Talk if you like, panic over but I will still be grateful for advice and support from those who know more about manky wheezy old ex-racers than I do.

So pleased he's safe. I love the oldies - I hope you will find that he will seem much better with just a bit of warmth and TLC. Also if he is very thin, his bladder control etc. will improve as he gains a little weight. I have an almost 12 year old adopted last Dec., and he is doing fine. pecan

I had an old greyhound who wheezed and panted at lot. He had esophageal paralysis. I had to keep him cool in the summer and limit his exercised. I had to let him go last year but he was over fifteen.

Phebe if you want to ring me! If the foster is happy to keep him there for now we are happy to take on his care. It sounds like either a chest infection or LP give me a ring later this evening.

Thanks for support everyone ;D
Lisa, I left it too late to ring you this evening but will call you tomorrow. I am so grateful that you are prepared to have him as a Gap hound. I was really hoping you would, and I honestly think he has at least a couple of good years left if his health issues could be managed.
This lad isn't underweight, in fact he might be better off minus a kilo or two. I don't think it is a chest infection, it is very like the wheeziness that the old Brummie lady Granny had. I was pleased to find that the people who had him had supplied him with enough warmth, but he def needs to get into the care of someone who knows their way round old greys. He needs a dental badly enough to make him a pongy passenger in a small car, but from what I could see of his teeth they aren't as bad as Granny's were. He is very stiff on his pins, can't balance on 3 legs to pee. He is very people and dog friendly but absolutely no cats. Really nice fellow.
And he is black ;D

Suprise suprise, a black greyhound boy. He's obviously has to be a gap dog then. Good luck to the old fella, hope he gets sorted and finds a comfy sofa to live out his days Sue
