We have recently (2 weeks ago) rehomed a female greyhound who appears to be intent on starvation. She will not eat any of the dry food provided by the rescue home, despite eating it there. Last night I tried her with Bakers complete Gravy Bites which she wolfed down but this morning won't touch. Any ideas?

To Greyhound Gap. First up a few questions. How old is she? What is her background is she straight off the track or has she been in a home before? Has she been vet checked by the rescue? Do you have other dogs or is she on her own? How is she interacting with yourselves and who is in the house ie you partner kids etc and does she interact differently with others? How is she on walks is she excited tail wagging when lead is shown? Does she sleep all day and does she get stressed if you leave her?

She is three years old and hasn't been in a home before. There are no other dogs and four adults in the house, all of whom she reacts well to. She has been checked by a vet and found to be very healthy. Not keen on walks as she is very nervous of other dogs, especially small ones. Plays well in the garden and willingly sleeps in the living room with us rather than alone in her bed.

Are you free feeding her ie leaving her food down all the time?

Feeding twice a day which is what she is used to. Have been advised to leave food down for only half an hour and then remove and not offer anything else until next feed. She has eaten a small amount this evening but nothing like what she should be eating and ate nothing at all this morning.

My foster hound Benny was difficult to feed initially and didn't seem to be able to deal with dry or slightly moist kibble at all. I have had to moisten the kibble really well and also mix in some canned meat, or sardines.....something softer and less crunchy..... to get him eating better. I have gradually decreased the meat in his breakfast meal but he still does not manage drier food as easily as the other two. Most racing dogs in kennels seem to be fed very soft food, almost like a stew up here anyway, so maybe you need to soften more and use canned food to encourage her, until she can be more gradually weaned off this.
