Barney's muzzle really seems to bother him. He backs away when I go to put it on him, and when I take it off he spends ages rubbing his face on the floor! To me it seems too narrow for his face - is it meant to be in contact with his cheeks or is it too small?
Are all greyhound muzzles much the same? This one is the plastic one from Jan's Greyhound Gifts, is it worth me trying another make? I'm thinking I might have to take him to the pet shop and try some of the ones they sell for size!

The muzzles from Jans Gifts are narrow. They are fine on my girls because they have small faces but they don't fit the males very well at all I think they are are too tight at the sides.
I'm not sure where is another good place to buy from. I have seen some with a suede effect noseband & also gaps at the bottom which makes them less sweaty which are bigger. I have a similar one that Barneysmum kindly lent me but I'm not sure where it was bought from.

We tried local pet shops but non had a decent one, only wire racing ones or baskervilles which are quite narrow and seem to have a big jump in size around greyhound size ones, so good luck. Jans do a couple of different ones, you could try giving her a ring. I wondered about the ks7 top right, black www.jansgifts.co.uk/list.php?type_id=113www.greyhoundmegastore.com/page89.htmlthese look the same, have found them helpful over coat sizing, could ring them

The KS7's are good but they are quite short (but wider!), Pixie also mananged to chomp her way through one when we were ambushed once by some off lead staffies I wouldn't have another wire muzzle from Jan's either as they are not deep enough to allow proper panting. There are wire muzzles that are deeper but again not sure where to get them from.

I wouldn't use wire ones, only last year a dog got bitten by another dog wearing a wire muzzle. I presume they are used in racing because they are light weight and the dogs tend to race each other on the track rather than beat each other up and are soon caught at the end of the race. I think the plastic greyhound muzzles are much better for every day use.

I'm worried now because Bob and Sam wear wire muzzles - which are the best ones to get and where from? Jane

Something like this: Cadbury (Nicky) donated some for the auction, you could pm her and ask her where she got them from. They come in lots of different colours!

RGT online shop, or most greyhound rescues (online shops etc.) will sell the above pictured plastic kennel muzzles.
Or you could try finding a shop for 'sporting dogs' which should have greyhound muzzles.
the rubbing the face thing is something my old boy has always done though too...he even rubs his face all over the place when he's not been muzzled, so it might not necessarily be discomfort, just something he likes to do! (And a bit of a protest at being muzzled).

Thanks, I'm considering it. My dogs are always on the lead and muzzles only come into play if a cat actually launches itself in front of them (or, as happened once on top of them) so I'm probably OK. Jane

Don't buy those Wendy they are totally unsuitable No idea how they are supposed to pant properly or drink in those, surely if they could do both they could also bite too I'd stick with the plastic ones ;D Sue

My lot and the kennel dogs can drink and take treats with the standard muzzle.

That's my thoughts too Sue!
I think I'm just going to carry on with the one he has. It doesn't look like it's going to be easy to do any better, and it's not like he's in it for hours at a time.
