I'm after any advice on this one, we noticed last night some dried blood on our cream chenille sofa (!!) and tracked it down to a split pad on Blues back paw. And no, he's not supposed to be on the sofa.
He's not in pain, or licking it too much, but when he wanders round the house, he's leaving a trail of blood spots. Not huge amounts, but just wandered if it's a silly idea to strap it up, or best just to leave it in the air to heal?
Thanks Michele and Blue

The problem with split pads is that leaving them in the air to heal means that they will keep opening up. I tend to strap them up and lead walk for a few days to give the split a chance to heal.

that's what I'm afraid of, I'll nip to the chemist downstairs and get him a bandage!
Thanks for the advice.

Michele, the best thing to do is pad it with cotton wool, wrap a bandage around it and then cover that with vet wrap, which is like a sticky bandage that you can get from Pets@Home. You might find that a bandage on its own will slip off. I buy the horse size vet wrap as it's easier to use.

I can go to pets at home tonight to get the sticky bandage, will do a temp job on him for his lunchtime walk, and not go too far.
I work above a pharmacy, so will see what i can get from there.

I always use a small piece of melolin next to the cut so removing it doesn't make it bleed again then pad with whatever finish with self sticking bandage or crepe one if that's what you've got but removing the tape which holds it on makes a good game We find they heal up quite quickly and we've had 100's of paw cuts thanks to butter pads River

Some pharmacies sell self sticking bandage much the same as vet wrap so you might have some at work.
I'd also stick a dressing on the cut too before the cotton wool padding.

well i got some vet wrap, and proudly bandaged him up. He'd pulled the blooming thing off within 2 mins! So I kept it off til walk time, and he walked with it on, but it dropped off along the way. May have to wrap his whole leg up now. You're right he thinks it's a great game, and wanted to eat it! Will try again at home tonight.

Michele, you do need to take it at least up to the knee joint or it does slip off!

I'll try again today, but we bandaged him up last night, and he just tore at his foot with his teeth until I had to take it off him. He looked like he would have hurt himself! I did clean it up, and put sudocrem on it. Why can't they let us help them??
