So, one whistle per dog, I will bear that in mind. That sounds so complex - I know I'd swallow one of them! My sister says when she is out riding her horse, he responds to dog whistles from miles away! Thanks on the whistle training, Nettie - I was wondering how to do it. Baby steps. So much to learn! But it is great fun. When you do get another dog I'd try to train to the same whistle but if it doesn't work you might have to try different whistles, all three of mine come to the same whistle but only in France!

I couldn't even think about an extending lead; the way they criss cross and tangle round me on just their ordinary leads makes me want to weep with frustration sometimes LOL! Also, the further away from me they get, the harder thy are to control if they take flight. They managed to pull me over today on a short lead, because they were startled by a noise behind them. On a long lead they probably would have got free.
We have a couple of the Halti training leads which you can adjust to whatever length and I give them as much or as little slack as I'm comfy with.
As for whistle training - we have done that with Barney and Lola and it is fab. Barney never gets to try it out in public though - I am certain he would go deaf. Lola goes offlead and recalls to the whistle in very select circumstances. Everything has to be right, and I have to feel right about it too, otherwise it's a no no. Right now it's not happening at all - too many squirrels harvesting their winter stash!

Your Jack Russell broke the lead? That's expensive! It was about 12 or 13 years ago and I don't think we would have bought anything expensive Pet stuff has changed since I had my first dog, if/when I get another I think I'll be learning from the start all over again!
