Elmuervo and Birdie - thanks for your replies, both very interesting and helpful indeed. Whatever happens the GH we welcome in to our family will be a treasured addition, i will do all i can to make her life happy. He or she will be a true boost for me as i do suffer from bouts of depression. The local GH Rescue has visited my home and completed a Homecheck and it was successful ! (I was surprised that they thought our garden was okay, we have a lot of regular "visitors" like cats and birds, i will keep my GH on lead until im sure). They brought along a 2yr old fawn-brindle girl called "Pebbles", who was a very beautiful and inquistive Grey. So all i have to do now is decide if she is the girl for us or maybe enquire what other Greyhounds are waiting homes. I do think a girl would be better for us. Pebbles seemed very quiet and nosey ! She was deemed not good enough to race. The Rescue peeps have had her at home for about two weeks or so and she has been checked by the vet. It will be a fresh start for her if she joins our family, we wont know what to expect from her. We know she is playful and loves her (non-squeaky) toys. Her true personality and character will appear gradually. I will let you know what happens later ! Thanks again everyone. Stephen

hi, my greyhound ellie has 3 beds, one upstairs in our bedroom and two downstairs ( i know, shes spoilt rotten!!) Ellie sleeps downstairs during the day in whichever room we are in, our bedroom door is kept closed during the day. At night she sleeps in our bedroom in her own bed, but sometimes sneaks onto our bed during the night, you know shes there because you wake up literally hanging off the side of the bed!!Of course we never move her!! We let her get away with this mainly because she looks at you with "that face",all greyhound owners will know what i mean!! and we haven't the heart to move her, but also because she just wants to be near us, well thats what i tell myself anyway!!I agree with the last person about making sure you get a bed big enough, ellie has a large padded bed with high sides as well as a pillow and several blankets (i know i'm a softie, but she looks so cute!!), i personally dont like the mattress type bed as i dont think they give enough protection against the cold, but of course this is personal choice. Ellie is a typical greyhound & loves her bed, sometimes in the morning i have to coax her out of it with a bisciut. I wish you all the luck in the world, greyhounds are beautiful gentle creatures but beware, they steal your heart and your life will never be the same again (in a good way of course!!)

My three are all ex-racers. One of my dogs has never wanted to come upstairs so I didn't encourage her. However the other two worked the stairs out pretty quickly and like to cuddle up on the bed with me I'm afraid - I do have a few grumbles because they both want to be at the top of the bed next to me - one has solved this by sleeping next to my pillow. I have to admit I have a King-size duvet on the floor after Bob rolled over and fell off in the night! They do make excellent hot water bottles and I too like know what they are doing in the night.

My old lurcher allways slept on our bed from a pup, but had her own bed in our room as well, our collie x is the same she has her own bed but will try and get in ours if its cold We got a crate for our pup in the kitchen as we thought her own space would be good for her and she charges into it when she knows its bedtime & biccy time, we allways leave the kitchen door open in case she squeaks to go out (im a light sleeper) but shes only done this once. Is has made settling her in much easier and given our old girl a bit of spoilt rotten time with the bedroom to herself ;D

Hello, our rescue hound Kym, who came to us beginning of August sleeps on an duvet with an old cover on it, doubled up. She started off sleeping on the landing outside our bedroom but has gradually managed to creep into the bedroom on the floor by the bed next to my husband whom she adores, which is really annoying as I'm the one who feeds and walks her most of the time ! she sulks if she can't be near him !
