I will agree that lurchers love to sunbathe and so you have to be aware for them and not let them overdo it, I take my two out fairly early in the morning, and I know that my 15yr old staffie X would not take kindly to being hot as she is always hiding in the bushes out of the sun sensible girl unlike Moss and my last lurcher, just have to be so careful with our precious hounds they only come round once in a lifetime.x

Chris took the lawnmower to be repaired today. On the way home decided to go shopping.Entrance to the supermarket is like an arcade with concrete pedestals supporting the pillars for the roof - wide enough for shoppers to sit on.Spotted a whippety - type on 1 of these, obviously distressed - panting etc.Convinced the owner(who was with it) to stick it in the shopping trolley and get help inside while waiting for her son to come to the rescue. All praise for Morrisons who raided the staff-room for covers they could wet and even found a fan. When he left hound was on it's way to the vets.Initially reading this you could blame the owner - but she'd only had the whippety for 3 days and hadn't a clue(initially thought Chris was an interfering so and so!).Really can't blame her cos rescue hadn't told her how different sighthounds are.Yes she could have researched before adopting but she was probably like us when we 1st had houndies - want a dog and fall in love with .Then comes the steep learning curve! She did promise to go on line and research cos she was so upset( and yes Chris did suggest GAP as a good resource).Just made me realise how many hounds are in rescues that want loving homes but the rescue may not know how different they are.In a way we were lucky cos our 1st hound checker was a Gapper who gave us quite a lot of information.Just hope the whippety recovers - another worrying thing is Chris also mentioned diarrhoa. Can't remember if this is related to HER etc but made me wonder if this was something picked up in kennels - Cath.
