I recently entered a competition entitled 'I love my oldie because....' which was to raise money for The Oldies Club, and I thought it might be appropriate to copy my entry to here, even though it is not a video montage! ;D
I love my oldie…but this is not a paean to one oldie, this is for thousands of elderly black greyhound bitches. I’m lucky enough to share my home with two at present – Betty and Matilda. Between them it took over twenty years to reach a sofa, but that’s not going to hold them back! They have survived racing injuries left untreated, contain more metalwork than The Angel of the North, have countless offspring, barely a full set of teeth between them, three mammary tumours and a score of dislocated toes. Does that stop them? Does it heck!
These gorgeous and overlooked girls are survivors – loving, feisty and natural comics. Long may they continue enjoying life – like widows on Caribbean cruises, sharing cocktails with the captain, dancing with the purser and flirting with the stewards, until their time comes. Every day is full of wonder, every challenge an opportunity to conquer the unknown, stretching their bodies to the limit, always finding strength within.
The racing industry terms them ‘bin liners’ because they are common and disposable – but they are just the opposite. Transformed from coals to diamonds in such a short time, they give love beyond measure, they are jewels beyond price.
Let's hear it for all those girls!

I'm sure it won't win, but I thought it was a sentiment worth sharing on here...now can I interest anyone in a stubborn wonky old donkey who can climb up stairs but refuses to climb down?
