Does anyone know of someone who could help a Whippet x bitch. She has been involved in a RTA and has quite severe injuries. It will cost £800 plus to treat her. As a Local Authority with a small budget for strays we can not afford this and unfortunately she will be PTS on Thursday morning (18th) if no one has claimed her.
If anyone knows anyone who would be willing to help a young friendly fawn Whippet entire bitch the please contact me ASAP.

Kaye from Lurcher Link is in Yorkshire and I think they are set up to help cases like these! What exactly in the way of help are they looking for for her a rescue who can take her on, someone to cover her veterinary costs etc? Can you give us more information.

That's all of the information that I have unfortunately. The message came through today on the Dogwatch list. I'm presuming that they need someone to rescue her AND therefore to pay the vet's fee. What also isn't clear is whether the poor bitch is being treated at the moment.
I'll pm Kaye but she'll get the message sent to her anyway.
I've put something on lurcher chat too as there's a vet on there. Who knows she might be able to help.

Phoenyx has tried to call Mandy but she has already left! We will try to find out tomorrow the extent of the damage whether she is able to travel etc and update then but there is a chance she will be able to be taken via Phoenyx and it will be taken from there! Transport assistance will be required please start to let me know via greyhoundgap@yahoo.co.uk if you can help with part of the relay which would need to be from wokingham to newcastle upon tyne! Again this depends on what she is told tomorrow and whether the dog is able to travel!

There's a rescue in Wokingham called Diana Brimble (I think) but I guess as with all rescues they're stretched. Has anyone contacted whippet rescue? I know breed rescues often only "do" purebred dogs but it's worth a shot?
Fingers crossed for her. What about the PDSA or the Blue Cross? Has anyone tried them do you know?

I have a feeling the rescue is Diana Brimscombe, but may be wrong!

Just found the no for the Wokingham Animal Rescue Shelter Wokingham 01189 782868 Not sure what it's called or whether they could be of help? There's also Binfield Dog Rescue www.dogrescue.fsnet.co.uk/bdr/It probably is Diana Brimscombe, I just knew it was Diana something. I know someone who adopted a young whippet x recently and he has problems with his back or legs and the rescue/charity were doing fundraising I think to help raise the money for surgery. I'll ask who it was in case they can help, though it sounds as though they've got their hands full.

Thanks Lisa, I'll update what the Animal Warden tells me tomorrow but if she can be brought up here we'll do our best for her. My vet will certainly help out as far as costs are concerned and can pull in a few fundraising favours up here too if need be. Depends on how bad she is but if it comes to PTS we'll step in - even if I have to drive down there myself!!

Fingers and Paws crossed that something can be arranged tomorrow we will keep everyone posted as to what is happening! Transport shouldnt be a problem and thank you to everyone for your offers of help especially Beejay for letting us know about this little lady, Phoenyx for saying she will take her and Dave for being there in a position of back up if its not feasible for her to go all the way to Newcastle Hopefully between the two sights and members working together her future will be alot brighter

Once we know what the extent of the injuries are and if she's able to be transported, we'll be in a better position to decide what's feasible. If she can't be moved, then I guess we're all looking at parting with a bit of xmas dosh to pay the vet bill................ Hopefully Mandy will get in touch tomorrow and we'll find out what's what.

I'm going to Reading (only 10 miles from Wokingham) to deliver xmas pressies on Friday (there & back the same day). Car is well equipped to bring her back here. No need for bitty relays to get her this far. I actually already emailed Mandy before I read this and saw you were on the case. Anyway, if anyone is coordinating our offers of assistance - I can help with: Transport from Wokingham to here (M1 Junction 21a) Temporary kennelling A d**n good, cheap, longdog savvy vet and A contribution to vet expenses Bear in mind that Wokingham is one of the most expensive areas in the UK (spays are up to £220) so we'd probably need to raise less money to treat here here (or ooop North) than if she stays in Berkshire. Let's pray she is fit to travel. If not, I know a few people at Greyhounds In Need that might help. Claire www.whitelodgekennels.co.uk
