My one eyed greyhound Blue is driving me nuts, i've picked up 9 poos today while out walking, she has burgerss greyhound and lurcher biscuit, with a little portion of chappie. I have been giving her slippery elm for ages now, I read on here that it was good, but she could still poo through the eye of a needle The first couple are sort of solid then they get softer. So i'm not sure whether to change her food again or if she is just that way inclined. Would be grateful for any help xx
It's possible that she's wheat intolerant - Burgess grey & L does contain wheat. My Gracie has to have a fish and potato food or she just has Mr Whippy (melted ) poos. She's also intolerant of any kibble with chicken in it too. Tried that Burgess and it just didn't suit her, Mads poo was ok but she produced mountains on it.
my two have gusto complete 22% protein, a handful of country value greyhound maintenance (both dried kibble) and a spoonfull of butchers tripe (not the chunks or in gravy) or sardines meat etc. I find the gusto makes it easier to pick up also pasta, carrots , any suitable leftovers. The gusto is £ 7.50 for a 10kg bag, country value @ £10 for 15kg (mine are loose if they only have this) this is why i mix. Dry in the morning, a little water added in the evening.Have tried a few others with awful end results. I have a friend who has a grey and swears by asda hero. I did try the greyhound one you use and had similar problems - not much fun in the middle of a city!! also mine finish of with as you described- I always thought this was the bowel completely emptying ....ready to run fast. I need a life i know far too much about this!!
Thankyou for your replys Where do you buy Gusto? i've never heard of it, I will look on the net for it though. I just assumed that Burgess Greyhound was what she should be eating, maybe that is my problem. Thankyou again, i'll try your suggestions xx
Since I moved my 4 to fish4dogs I add less 'extra' stuff and they do so well on it with very few tummy upsets but thats not to say it will suit every dog or that they'll like it. ~Just trial and error.
I now get gusto from my local pet shop who order it in, but you can get it from dodsonandhorrell.com and if you buy two bags you get them for free delivery and 2 bags for £15.It comes in three life stages. hope this helps but it does contain wheat.
I'm a big of Fish4dogs fan too. It is expensive but you need to give them much less than other kibble. When I saw the portion they reccommended for Oafy, a huge dog at 38kgs, I thought he might starve on it but no. From it streaming out of him continuously he is now solid, regular and very healthy.
I have also recommended it to others who have all been amazed at how good it is.
I HAVE JUST GOT A YOUNG LURCHER BITCH 18 - 24 MONTHS OLD SHE IS EATING TESCO COMPLETE CAUSE THATS WHAT THE OTHERONE AS. SHE HAS LOADS OF POOS AND SOMEONE SAID GET JAMES WELLBELOVED CAUSE IT NOT GOT ANY WHEAT IN IT IS THAT TRUE.
Hi - james wellbeloved doesn't have any wheat or wheat-gluten in their products. You could also try burns, arden grange, etc. All high quality dog foods which used named protein and fat sources, no artifical additives etc with the carbohydrate coming from rice, potatoes or oats, whose gluten is all easier and more tolerable. We've just written an article on the dog food labelling and the content of dog food which explains what to look for in a good dog food (which in turn can and will help with poop quality etc :-) ) www.bow-wow-pets.co.uk/dog-food-labelling.html
It took me months to get Gracie settled as I didn't realise even though I knew about wheat intolerance as you lurcher was :-[ Gracie can however cope with small amounts of wheat such as in a bonio or a bit of toast without it upsetting her. River couldn't.
My lurcher can't tolerate rice so I feed him Quinoa which is a grain (I think .. a vet recommended it) .. some greys can be intolerant of wheat, chicken, beef, rice ... not easy to work it out either - beef makes my girl itch

peggy: Also a brand new greyhound owner, I love her already. It's hard to believe she is 4 years old, I have to keep reminding myself she was in a kennel and not a home. She is a beaut, but goes skits around food, I suppose it was the excieting time of day x
