I think it's about time I let people know how our new addition is settling in. When Jake first arrived with us he was very nervous and hadn't enjoyed kennel life at all as evidenced by his chewed front paws. For the first couple of weeks he mainly slept upside down on the sofa and wasn't even exited about walks. He has become a lot more outgoing, loves walks and is a very bouncy and healthy dog. For the most part he is very well behaved but has had the odd moment. Chewing books up allover the hallway when left alone and pinching shoes are his favourite tricks We did intend to crate train him but he was having none of that. He cried at night until we let him out. Once he was out he just slept on the sofa and didn't make a sound all night. We did crate him when we went out until we came home to find he had undone a bolt on the crate, squeezed through the gap, jumped the safety gate and gone upstairs Crate is now folded up and not used ;D He is in his element when allowed to run in the fields though. He has a miniature rugby ball that he chases like a complete lunatic. Recall is great and if I tell him to wait there is no hesitation He was playing with two highland terriers the other day. Watching him wait for them to catch up then running off teasing them was priceless. He is so clever that he has even set up his own twitter account - @halcyondog Andy

Glad to hear he is doing well, ours have mini rugby balls that they love, Rio's favourite game is to see how long she can keep the ball going by bouncing in on her nose until it loses momentum. I think they also like them because they have no idea which way they are going to bounce.

Another small update. Jake is now an established part of the family. He continues to pinch shoes but has stopped shredding books. I have to keep checking the top of the garden when I can't find my boots ;D Whoever said that Lurchers are docile and easy going in the house obviously never met Jake. He is a complete lunatic. I don't class it as bad behaviour though, more like tons of energy and wanting to play all the time. He is only young. That said, he is asleep on the sofa in the conservatory as I type this He won't be coming to the kennels with me today but he will be going to the show tomorrow. May even enter him in some classes. My Daughter wants to enter best child handler and she's already told Jake not to embarrass her Andy
