Hi everyone,
So we finally got to move the narrowboat that we have been refitting, from Northwich to Astbury & we had a slight change of plan .... we had the dogs with us!
Quick rethink & we had the new high gate in place faster than planned to stop them joining Neil on the stern and /or falling in the canal.
There are 31 locks between the two points and our duo had never been on a narrowboat before (as far as we know) let alone going through locks. They, as in Bonnie, got a little vocal a couple of times but that's probably because she couldn't see either of us and obviously thought Prince was going to skipper the rest of the journey? I think I'd be concerned too as it could take you ages to get past anything that might possibly move in the next 3 years if he steered a narrowboat the way we conduct some of our walks
They were great on the boat. We have non slip vinyl flooring which helps them a bit but as they seem to spend most of their time asleep, movement isn't an issue :-) When they want off for a toilet break one of them will give a woof which works pretty well.
The only moan I had was 12 legs in a 4'6" futon - which is quite low to the floor as well - isn't really very comfortable :-( We had Prince sleeping across the bottom of the bed but not at the bottom (more like 2' from the bottom of the bed) & Bonnie took up residence between us. So in total there was 50+ kilos of dogs lying on the quilt - you got what you managed to grab before they took their places and if you were a bit slow ........ tough and dont think about stretching or turning over ;D
Prince was quite taken with ducks & ducklings - especially when we went to The Broughton at Rode Heath & someone was feeding the ducks from the patio area. Bonnie was pretty laid back about them from the start but it took Prince a while to realise that he wasn't going to be getting any closer than where he was so he might as well forget them.
So we got back to Astbury through hail & thunder (well it is the Macc canal!) and following on with Neil doing a bit more work to said boat in the evenings then the next long weekend - without rain please - Bonnie & Prince will be off again - if we go up to Macc then there's "only" 12 locks each way & I can keep them company and they might even let me read the books I downloaded
