Phebe I have been out and seen the area. Its a massive area and I have been trying to get hold of the man today who is going out and trying to feed this dog to ask him to speak to the restaurant. The dog is coming up to the restaurant it seems daily and I think they need to get the dog up there and onto their lit carpark to allow them to trap it there. Other than that you are going to be screwed the dog is staying specifically on the farmers land and I am afraid he wants people constantly traipsing it less than he wants the dog there! I cant blame him as its all arrable land that has just been seeded. The farmers field alone is around 1/4 mile long and when you see the dog its literally a dot on the horizon! The field literally borders Sherwood Forest and the dog can hide for miles again in my opinion this is one of the worst potential areas I have ever seen a dog lose in if it does not want to come in, at night the area is also dense and pitch black you wont be able to see the end of your finger. Hence why I feel feeding and moving towards the pub carpark is going to be the best bit.
Hope that helps. I have said if the dog can be regularly fed from the restaurant I am willing to come over again with Tzar but sadly its a four hour round trip so to much to undertake regularly!

Lisa, thank you for responding as we have here a case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing. Pam and I did not know that Gap are involved, it appears that someone asked Pam for help separately and she does have a good trap. I agree that the dog needs to be encouraged to come to the restaurant, def the best way forward.
I know the area as I went to school in Shirebrook which is close by. Sherwood Forest is indeed a difficult place to catch a dog, I have been in there after dogs a couple of times. Both were found, but when I tell you the second was a blind collie with 3 legs and it took a week to find her, that says it all.
I will speak with Pam tomorrow. We have no intention of upsetting the farmer, but according to Pam he wants the dog caught asap as it is hanging around the pheasant feeders. The reason I am involved is that I am near enough to take responsibility for the trap, I am not taking Wispa along to this one as although she tracks very well she isn't steady enough to lure a dog like your Tzar can.

Thanks Phebe. I would definately go and speak with the restaurant to see if they will put food out round the back and I will get hold of Richard and Margaret who let us know about the dog and see if they can help you with that. Hopefully if the dog will come regularly the trap can be used as its a nice flat area that is well lit and very easy to keep a watch on. The dog is feeding on either the seed that has been laid and the sugar beet OR from the pheasant feeders so will probably easily trap as it must be starving. We saw where the dog had poo'd and it was almost all corn/seed type matter. I am only sorry I am so far away and cant come over to help you If you want to give me a ring so I can give you a lay of where the farmer says the dog is seen most etc please do so. And....... as for Gap being notified you know us Phebs everywhere and nowhere ;D think we are starting to get the reputation for being some for of real life Cruella de Ville's ;D

I have been talking with Margaret and also with Pam. i am going over to meet Margaret tomorrow and she will show me where the hound is being fed. I take over the feeding from Sat morn onwards, have to be over there for 7.30 (yawn), and later on Sat morning the trap is being brought and set up by Pam and Neil who are experienced with this trap. It's the Doglost "lucky" trap so I hope it lives up to its reputation. Pam is sorting out somewhere to put the hound until he can come over to you.

Margaret has been talking with farmer and restaurant owner and they are being co-operative. And she has found a RGT volunteer who is willing to share trap-watching duties with me.

I have been over to the area with Richard and Margaret, will be back at stupid o'clock to do hound's breakfast then we will be setting up the trap when it arrives around midday. Hound has been up to the restaurant raiding bins. They are prepared to feed him if it would help.

We got the trap in place but did not set up and bait until this evening, as hound is never seen in afternoons. Will be over there very early tomorrow and hope it contains hound and not a furious member of the local wildlife.

No luck so far, trap and bait untouched. Left breakfast for hound. He is probably unnerved by the change of feeding person as he is used to Richard. Will carry on regardless. Richard says this is a very clever and alert dog. We are thinking maybe lurcher rather than greyhound. I have seen a video clip taken by Richard. I don't know enough about hounds to say for sure but to my inexperienced eye the face was a bit wide for a pure greyhound.
