This George is a blue and white Greyhound who was rescued from dire straits. This is what his foster folks say about him:
George is a 3 year old blue and white greyhound (tattoed) who we believe came from a greyhound trainer in the North East sometime in December 2009.
George was collected from an allotment on 20th January, after a request for help to Lurcher Link from one of the local dog lads. George's owner had abandoned him and it was apparent that he had not been fed for about a week. He weighed only 22kg and had a massive worm burden. He was cold and very hungry. He was extremely withdrawn and had never been in a house before. He was wormed immediately but after a couple of days he needed steroids from the vet to get his diarrhoea under control.
It seems that all George needed was food - 2 meals a day and nothing fancy, but he has gained approximately 2.25kg per week since his arrival and is now showing his true character. He was very easy to house train and now barks if he needs to go outside. He is a happy bouncy boy who is learning how to play and interact with the people and other dogs.
He is not yet stock broken but we are working on this by exposing him to livestock in a calm and controlled environment. He will not be small furry or cat friendly but he is learning to be steady in the presence of ferrets under supervision.
He has mixed freely and unmuzzled with all our other dogs, mainly lurchers but including 2 small terriers, a border collie and 2 elderly greyhound girls. He has never shown any aggression even at feeding time (and bearing in mind he was starved this is quite amazing). He walks very well on the lead and travels quietly lying down in the car. As with any greyhound fresh from kennels he will need some basic training, particularly with recall work before he can be allowed to run free.
We are sure that George will make a wonderful addition to any dog friendly home and will continue to develop his personality.
George is currently living in a foster home in West Yorkshire. He still needs vaccinating and neutering
