His orangeness was more relaxed at dog training this week. Still puzzled by big dogs, and rather keen on the small rat on a string that yaps all the time, but no great efforts to eat any of them.
He's quite responsive when you call him to get his attention, and quite distractable from rats on strings with food. Our bitch just thinks food, food, food, food if you give her any, but I think Fanta is already starting to put together food and command.
Caused great amusement in class poking bits of cheese through his muzzle! Need to find more muzzle friendly treats for next week.

So glad that the lad continues to do well Georgina and still holds a very special place in all our hearts. ;D Plonk a kiss on his nose from us all. We find that the ginger ones usually are a bit more bright to be honest its just the goldfish mentality once it has gone in

Dog training again tonight. We took gravy bones this time, but were allowed to take the muzzle off once in the hall which made eating them even easier . Little squeaking rat-dog wasn't there and the other three didn't look quite so much like rabbits, so Fanta wasn't too distracted by them. Or least when he was, I had a go at distracting him with gravy bones - and it worked well! He's definitely relaxing in class. Now all we need to do is practice at home - problem is that her ladyship is always around to muscle in on the treats!

Fanta has just got back from his first hols with us. We stayed in a Travelodge on the first night - he was rather puzzled by the orange dog in the mirror on the back of the door, but didn't growl at it, which is what Eva does at the blue dog she sees in the mirror.
They travelled together very well in the back of the car - we have put the seats down and bought a dog guard.
Fanta was rather intrigued by the sheep on the farm where we stayed, but was ignoring them by the end of the week. He had fun off-lead in the dog field, although he doesn't have the 100% hi-speed recall that Eva has developed in pursuit of gravy bones. Fanta will come if he notices you, but does like to pursue trails round the field at a jog trot and get lost in his own little world.
Both dogs enjoyed visiting Roman sites along Hadrian's Wall - Fanta had a wee in the bathing house at Chesters.
On our way back south we stopped off at Aira Force waterfalls near Ullswater, and both the dogs enjoyed the scramble up the paths. We spent the night in a nice hotel in a village on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, and the dogs again were well behaved, even though there were two hotel cats very much in evidence.
Fanta had a lovely surprise on Sunday when we went to visit Jo and Chris and Roxy. Fanta was delighted to see Jo, but a bit peeved when Eva sat on the sofa and Roxy sat on the dog bed, leaving nowhere for him!
Now back home for a rest!

Fanta is now annoyed, as despite being given a lovely treat ball after the Greyhound Gap auction, he has not had much of a chance to play with it as blue madam pinches it every time. (Little does he know that his Christmas present has now been sorted, thanks to doggylover - although Eva will probably pinch that one too).
Fanta liked Halloween, as he thought the jack o'lanterns were fascinating, and didn't mind Guy Fawkes day as the fireworks weren't too loud.
He got praised for doing a 'stand stay' in dog training the other week - little does the trainer know how good greyhounds are at standing! We are working on a 'down' but haven't worked out how to do it yet.

Highly amusing episode last night when Fanta pinched half a mince pie off our side table (my fault, shouldn't have left it there). As he was licking his lips Eva decided there was something worth getting up for, and leapt up and dived for the bottom of the side table... straight underneath Fanta.
She got halfway under and then stopped to sniff the carpet, totally oblivious to the fact that she was now wedged halfway under Fanta's tummy. Fanta stood there looking rather puzzled, as if to say "what do I do now?"
Eva continued hunting for crumbs, ignoring the fact that she was causing Fanta to stand like a long lorry grounded over a humpbacked bridge! Eventually she wriggled out from underneath, and Fanta looked relieved.
And in case you're wondering, Eva is not a small greyhound. She's probably only an inch shorter than Fanta at the shoulder!

Fanta and Eva had a lovely Christmas, thanks to the yummy presents from our Secret Santa, gilli176! They also loved the squeaky toys, although in her usual fashion Eva nicked both of them as quickly as possible.
Fanta is not adverse to his own bit of thieving - I left an unopened pack of AfterEights on the arm of the sofa and popped out of the room for a minute, and came back to find Fanta sitting there with the box between his paws, trying to open the plastic wrapping. And, as always, he looked at me with such a woebegone expression when I told him off!
We still have some of our Secret Santa treats left to eat - so Christmas isn't over yet.
