OK, how about estate cars with large boot space with four wheel drive? We used to have a Toyota Surf (Japanese Import but cheap Insurance). I loved that car and it easily took four greys in the boot with a guard up and no seats down. It also runs on vegetable oil in the warmer weather so wasn't so bad on the old diesel. I don't have that car anymore but just a clio! I am *hoping* to get a different car soon and are looking at the scenic...such decisions though.

Eek - on a serious note, when we are ready to adopt - we have a Corsa and a Honda Accord - will we manage a hound, 2 small boys, OH and me in one car? Is this practical and/or safe? It's taken me ages to get OH to agree that getting a hound will compete our family - having to change cars would be a big set back We have a little Merc A Class, and comfortably fit myself & OH, two daughters (one in a child safety seat), and a very tall gangly lurcher in the boot Monty lurcher has plenty of room to stand up or stretch out/lie down, and the back of the seats are high enough to keep him snug and in place...but not squished. Personally I think we could fit a little whippy type in there too....hmm... ;D We do of course call the (blue) Merc our tardis.

We have a Subaru Estate, very comfy for two big Greyhounds!
My little VW Fox also takes two Greyhounds very happily with the seats down.

Are you sure a Fabia Estate isn't big enough? I have one and I've had Rosie and a lurcher who was her in it before now and they were both laid down quite comfortably in it.
