Jessie came to us 6 weeks ago as a temporary foster after his family of 13 years could not keep him any longer. He came into our home on a monday and we knew within minutes that we would find it hard to give him up. Out of all the things you want in a dog, getting on with already established pets is the main priority in my opinion and any other problems can be worked with, and with Jessie he came in and- to say he hadnt lived with dogs before- he settled fine with our already large family of 4 dogs. At first Jessie was quite noisy and would bark constantly for an hour or so at at time for the first night and then frequently do single barks for the next few weeks, we understood that for Jessie been moved was probably highly stressful and upsetting for him and that was probably the cause of his barking and hoped he would settle with time. Jessie was allowed to settle in his own time without been bothered for lots of hugs which believe me is very hard, and also got no attention for his barks. He spent the first 2 weeks sleeping in the hallway sitting barking here and there but slowly over time he moved closer to us eventually coming into the lounge in the evening and sitting with us, during this time his barking became less frequent to.
The biggest break for Jessie i feel came when we took him camping 3 weeks ago with all the other dogs and a few other friends with dogs he spent whole days walking and evenings snoozing in the tents with us and when we arrived home the bond that had grown was immediately obvious, he spends more time in the room at night with us and now enjoys been cuddled which he shyed away from before.
Jessie continues to improve and is slowly learning everyday how to trust us a little more and im sure given time he will be happier than ever. I couldnt imagine the big soft lad not been with us now and because of this it was decided that Jessie would be our first failure and would become one of the Revitt hounds at the grand age of 13. anna.x. ;D
