Skye came into Greyhound Gaps care in November 2003! She was the turning point for us as an organisation and set the whole cogs in motion all over again! We had decided from the offset not to go down the rehoming road and concentrate on just the co ordination aspect liasing between ourself and other rescues!
I was approached by a couple who had her and were not capable of giving her what she needed! She was a mere 11mnths old and had already been through three homes! A very little lady and for a saluki/whippet/collie was very well balanced and hadnt let her bad past phase her! What could I do?? I could see she needed out and out as soon as possible! Could I afford to spay here before rehoming? Could I substantiate the cost of her vaccinations her microchipping? If I took her I had to! She came to stay with me and then the search began! We secured as an organisation reduced rate neutering locally and the scene was set! This way we could also afford to make a difference and help hounds into homes ourself!
She settled in here quickly, flew through her spay and was a real live wire driving us all crackers with her constant playing and happy yapping!
In the meantime I had seen a post on Dog Pages made by a family around 30 minutes drive from us in the heart of the country in rural Derbyshire! They were looking to offer a home to a lurcher BUT and they were big buts the dog had to be able to co exist with free roaming chickens, ducks, 4 cats, two sheep, two goats and also be playful enough to cope with there two year old bouncy Labrador Max!! A very tall order! I knew though that Skye was intelligent enough, eager to please and pleasant enough not to hurt a fly!
The first contact was made via email including a photo of the lovely little lady herself the one that you can see at the top of this thread! They were smitten from the offset! Betty and Peter are a lovely couple with so much time, patience and love to offer to any dog! We went to meet them to carry out a homecheck and took Skye along to meet them! She adored Max from the offset and they played like lunatics, she ignored the chickens, ducks ran free in the field with the sheep and goats ignoring them Bingo! Now the big task the cats! She met them and showed little or no interest so we discussed it further and agreed that if they were happy then I was happy and she could join there family!
She had a few teething troubles with the cats at first when they ran but moreso because she wanted to play and they werent having any of it! Just three months later she is settled, doing well and totally adored! I have been to visit her and she is I would say happily home for good!
