Ice has been with us now for five months, he has settled in brilliantly into our home, he follows me everywhere and loves cuddles. Out on walks he is a bundle of energy and is slowly starting to learn that dogs are for playing with and NOT eating. Cats on the other hand are still on the menu!!! I can't imagine being without him now and he has helped my six year old daughter overcome her fear of dogs. Lisa has been brilliant, I rang one night after Ice screamed whilst lying on the sofa. i was so worried and Lisa reasurred me and laughed (he had cramp) also last month he got a cut on his back leg and lisa was there in minutes and with me at the vets whilst Ice acted like the big baby he is. He is spoilt rotten and loves it. Knowing that I have given him a safe and loving home for life has made me consider fostering, and i'm hoping to discuss this with Lisa soon. thank you GG for my baby boy.

:-[Hi Finally found my way to the message board. I have taken on Smurf who is the best thing that has happened to me for a long time( not sure the cat agrees!). I brought him home on Saturday and he feels and acts as though he has always been here! He has settled into my work, sofa, garden and pub better than some of my training dogs(i train Guide dogs). He has a New Best Friend a lab called Doogel and despite the differances in weight always gets the better of him mainly by ankle biting. My thanks go to Lyn for fostering him and giving him up on Saturday.

Hello, It's so good to hear that Smurf has settled in well, although I suspected all along that he would as he is such a lovely lad. I hope we get to hear how things are going for him from time to time, and it would be lovely to see a picture of him with his new best friend Doogel, I bet they are a force to be reckoned with. Jackie aka Lynne's mum. x

I've only just found this thread (doh). We adopted Oz Foz whippet ;D in Dec 06 and he is a joy to live with. My other dog Floyd had struggled to overcome his problems which stemmed from his past and i never thought that we would find a companion for him as it would have to be a very special dog. I had searched for a long time, all the rescue sites and visits to rescue centres to no avail. I had long ago abandoned the idea of a greyhound (my Mums favourite) as I was told that they could never live with cats and I had 4 of them. Then I found Gap and Lisa found the perfect boy for us. From the initial meeting when Corinne brought him to meet Floyd it was a match made in heaven. He is calm, gentle, brave and he loves to cuddle. ;D I had tremendous help from Lisa and Corinne and this is ongoing. I know that I only have to contact them and the support is there. The added bonus is the Greyhound Gappers, a whole 'family' of likeminded people who are always willing to help others. I'm going to shut up now before i bore you to tears.

We adopted the lovely Leggy Cleggy as he was known to gap in Oct 06. He had been in foster with Anna and we agreed to meet up with him and take our other 2 dogs to Lisa's. We all went for a short walk together to introduce them to each other. Cleggy was described as a typical saluki/lurcher he was a bit slow and had little recall. We took him back home with us to Anglesey he was to wear a muzzle until we could assess how he behaved with our cat and also out on walks just in case with other small furries. Cleggy has proved himself over and over. His recall is great he does like to chase the ol rubbits but he always comes back to a whistle. When we first got him he was thin and needed building up so was prone to the odd strain he sprained his neck and pulled a muscle in his leg but over the past few months he has built up his weight and stamina and now enjoys his walks and socializes with lots of other dogs. I read the gap web site and know that there is always support if I do have any problems or need advice. He is great we cant imagine being without him and we love him to bits. Here are some piccys of Cleggy with his chums. [ ][/ ] [][/ im g] The last one he is asleep with Steve sunbathing!! The one thing I will say is he occupies the sofa we now share it with him as it is now his bed!

Hi. We adopted Zac a 4yrold greyhound from greyhound gap in april 2005. Vicky and Chris were fostering him and we were warned he was quite active and had a strong chase drive ! ie. even found the tropical fish exciting...... Our Deerhounds thought he was mad (why so fast, what's the hurry?) and on our first walk he went bananas at a Jack Russell in the distance and we thought we had made a big mistake... We knew he had been small dog tested and was fine with our Westie so with a big gulp we carried on and as the week went on he got better and better. We knew help was there if we needed it!! He ran into the garden bench in the first few weeks and had stitches and then did it again a week later ! Not blessed in the self preservation department. He is NOT a typical greyhound, much more like a collie! He would walk a 100times a day and as we have a very active lifestyle he fits into our lives perfectly. Well matched as your normal couch potato would be horrified Fantastic in the house and great with visiting children (the Deers hide from them ) He settled in quite quickly and is a fantastic companion. We love him to bits and are really glad he came to us. ;D p.s Would add a picture if I could work it out....

Hi, I have been meaning to post a comment here for a long time. You all seemed really keen on helping us find a friend to join us and our whippet Fletch. The homecheck went well and was done very quickly. Before we knew it we were visiting Sidney (now Louie) at his foster home and although it broke her heart Corinne tried to look pleased when we left with him. He and Fletch have become great friends and everyone at Gap made us feel so special I can't find the words to thank them. I would love to adopt more whippets in the future, through you, but maybe not for a while. Thanks everyone, you work so hard, it is appreciated. Sue and John

Just over a year ago I decided that i could offer a rescue dog a good, loving home so i went to the local dogs home but sadly i didn't come across one that would be ok with my daughter. When looking through the paper i found an add for the greyhound rescue trust, shortly after that i met Suzie, a 12 year old greyhound. I was so taken back by her story i wanted to take her home right then! She was found by a very kind and caring lady who while walking her own dogs came across her. When she was found her back left leg was broken in 3 places, hip was shattered and she had a large cut on her neck to make things worse she was nothing but skin and bone, the vets didn't think she was gunna make it, but they repaired her hip and leg by pinning it back together, closed the wound on her neck and gave her a high does of TLC! It was touch and a go a few while and now Suzie has made a fantastic recovery. She enjoys going for a run and playing with my other dog Tilly but like all greyhounds she loves nothing more then to lie on something cozy and sleep! We have had a few teething problems and a few medical ones. Just after Suzie came to me she started bitting her self and lost alot of her fur, she was treated for fleas and other skin conditions, nothing worked until about 4 months ago when she just stopped doing it, her coat is most almost fully re-grown now. I wonder if she bite her self due to being very scared, and suffering from anxiety attacks, the result of the punishment she went through. Adopting Suzie was one of the best things i could of done! I really cant understand how someone could put such a beautiful animal through so much torture and pain, think its ok and get away with!
I know i didnt rescue Suzie from Gap but i thought i would share our story with you.
If your thinking of adopting a dog, rescue a greyhound, no matter how old or young they are, they are fantastic dogs, who need lots of love and care, and will repay you with even more love!
