Tilly's big patches of black fur seem to have dandruff! Has anyone any advice on a remedy, presumably with her food?

Ellie gets this and we use the fish oil and the zoom groom too ( they are fab) we also use the dermacton soap bar that aromesse sell - and that really helps - reduced her dandruff in one applicatio

Ours looked great, all shiny, until I brushed them yesterday and raised a lot of dandruff Like Moira I add oils and use a zoom groom. When you've finished brushing them if you dip the zoom groom in water then flick it off and do a final stroke or 2 it collects the last hairs and flakes of dandruff up really well. The delights of this time of year, then the moult starts.... Or put rubber gloves on, wet them then stroke them and that helps collect the stray hairs and dander after grooming.

Thanks everyone.. she does have fish oil in the form of sardines etc, but will get try the Fish4dogs salmon oil. I do groom her but think the rubber brush I got her is too harsh (probably more like torture!)so will order a zoom groom! Thanks again Janice x

I know salmon oil is good stuff but I'd try a small one first as mine won't touch their food with it on even though they love salmon and fish skins, so I use other ones with cod liver oil / evening primrose oil.

Jaden used to have a very dry and scurfy coat-i bought her a lovely body brush(usually used to groom horses)which got all the dry skin out-and brings her up lovely and shiny-plus she has sardines and pilchards a couple of times a week ;D

stupid question: i have a zoom groom and it works amazingly well... it only brings out dead hairs right? thought the dogs would end up bald with the amount coming out of them today!
(oh and i also follow up with a small body brush to make em shiny again)

Yes, dead hairs, moult time, the most wonderful time of the year...NOT NOT NOT Ours are just starting to shed muchly but River has something wrong and looks as if you've clippered him every time you brush him (had blood tests, nothing conclusive so being monitored)

Ugh! Ours are all like the 'before' shot on the Head and Shoulders advert at the moment! It's the moulting + coat-wearing + harsh weather combination that does it . . . So, we also use a Zoom Groom and feed oily fish twice a week . . . plus we add a little corn oil (Mazola) to their food three times a week ;D. It works! Jo x

Wurzel has really bad scurf but then again his skin was in really bad shape, I hope he doesn't start moulting - he hasn't got much to start with. I used a zoom groom on him the other day, no hair came out but oh my, the amount of dead skin was truly horrible but better it comes off. I've started him on evening primrose oild capsules for his coat and skin. Just to show you that he'll eat anything, I forgot to put a couple in his dinner the other evening so I just offered him a capsule fully expecting him to refuse it but no, chomped it straight down along with the second one I offered him.

He is hard core ours are ok with cod liver oil but unless evening primrose is well mixed in something tasty they won't touch it. Oh how I envy those of you with non fussy hounds

Daisy-Mae is full of dandruff at the moment too (although Merlin looks like he has been living in the summer all year round - he gleams!! ;D ), so I will get a zoom groom and give it a try. She has fish oil at least twice a week too. ;D
